Jose lives in San Jorge, Guatemala and worked in construction for many years. While working one day a few years ago, he fell off the roof and broke his back. He is now paralyzed from the waist down.
Through Gift of Hope and the help of generous donors, Jose was able to get a wheelchair. He also needed to live in a different house - one that would allow him proper access with a wheelchair. Benefactors kindly provided the help needed to build him a house, along with the money to pay for his medical bills. We were also able to help the family build a store inside their home to compensate for Jose's lack of work.
Jose's wife, Florestina, is the sole person helping Jose. She also needs to care for their two children, who are both deaf and unable to speak. Although life has been very difficult for this little family, they greet us with such joy when we have visited and are always eager to pray and spend time with us. Praise God for introducing us to this family's great need and for providing for their needs.
This is the one room house they used to live in.
Construction was underway quickly!
Today Jose and Florestina are able to sustain themselves through their store, which brings in enough income each month. Their two children are now sponsored and can attend school.
